Energy Efficiency Network
Full Form of EEN
What is EEN?
An Energy Efficiency Network (EEN) is a structured collaboration platform where industrial facilities, commercial buildings, or municipalities come together to systematically improve their energy performance. In India, EENs are promoted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and supported by international agencies like GIZ under the Indo-German Energy Programme. These networks typically involve 10–15 non-competing units that share best practices, undergo joint energy audits, set common targets, and monitor progress through periodic meetings. They are used across manufacturing clusters, textile parks, and cement plants to achieve cost savings and reduce carbon emissions. For students preparing for energy management or environmental exams such as GATE, IES, or UPSC, understanding EENs is relevant because they represent a market-based, peer-learning approach to implementing the Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme. The model has been successfully deployed in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, helping industries cut energy bills by 8–12% annually while contributing to India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. EENs also foster a culture of continuous improvement and technology transfer, making them a vital tool in India's energy transition roadmap.
