Energy Conservation Week
Full Form of ECW
What is ECW?
Energy Conservation Week (ECW) is a government-led initiative in India, organized annually by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power. It typically coincides with National Energy Conservation Day on December 14 and spans a week of awareness campaigns, workshops, competitions, and educational programs aimed at promoting energy efficiency among citizens, industries, and institutions. The week highlights strategies to reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and adopt renewable energy practices. Schools, colleges, government offices, and corporate entities participate through activities like poster-making, energy audits, and pledge drives. ECW is particularly relevant for students preparing for competitive exams such as UPSC, state-level civil services, and energy sector exams, as questions on energy policies and conservation schemes frequently appear. The initiative reinforces India's commitment to sustainable development and energy security, aligning with national goals like the National Action Plan on Climate Change.
