What is EAA?
Essential Amino Acids (EAA) are a group of nine amino acids that the human body cannot synthesize on its own and must obtain from the diet. These include histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. EAAs play a critical role in protein synthesis, enzyme production, hormone regulation, and tissue repair. In the Indian context, EAAs are emphasized in school and college biology curricula, particularly for Class 11 and 12 students under the CBSE and state boards, as well as in competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and CUET. Understanding EAAs is also vital for medical and nutrition students. Dietary sources include animal products such as eggs, milk, chicken, and fish, as well as plant-based foods like soy, quinoa, buckwheat, and legumes.
