Divisional Railway Manager
Full Form of DRM
What is DRM?
A Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) is a senior administrative officer responsible for the overall functioning of a railway division in Indian Railways. India is divided into 68 such divisions, each headed by a DRM who reports to the General Manager (GM) of the respective zone. The DRM oversees operations, maintenance, safety, punctuality, and customer service within the division. They coordinate with departments like engineering, mechanical, electrical, signal, traffic, commercial, and security to ensure smooth train movements and infrastructure upkeep. The role also involves managing budgets, implementing new projects, handling emergencies, and engaging with local stakeholders and passengers. DRMs are typically drawn from the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), or other group A railway services, and the position is highly prestigious in the government hierarchy. In competitive exams like RRB, UPSC, and SSC, questions about railway organization and the duties of a DRM frequently appear. Understanding the DRM’s role is crucial for aspirants seeking careers in Indian Railways or public administration.
