Debt Recovery Cell
Full Form of DRC
What is DRC?
A Debt Recovery Cell (DRC) is a specialized unit within a bank or financial institution in India that focuses on the recovery of non-performing assets (NPAs) and overdue loans. When a borrower defaults on repayments, the DRC initiates a structured process involving reminders, legal notices, and negotiations to recover the outstanding amount. These cells operate under the broader framework of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002, which empowers banks to seize collateral without court intervention. DRCs are common in public sector banks and are also used by asset reconstruction companies (ARCs) and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs). Their role has become increasingly significant in India due to rising NPAs and the need for efficient loan recovery mechanisms. In banking examinations such as IBPS PO, SBI PO, and RBI Grade B, questions often cover the functioning of DRCs and related legal provisions. The cell typically coordinates with legal teams, recovery officers, and branch managers to ensure timely resolution of default cases, thereby maintaining the asset quality of the institution.
