District Administrative Network
Full Form of DAN
What is DAN?
The District Administrative Network (DAN) is a dedicated communication backbone that interconnects various government offices within a district in India. It facilitates seamless data exchange, video conferencing, and digital collaboration among district administration, departments like revenue, health, education, and rural development. Launched as part of the e-governance initiatives under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), DAN enables real-time monitoring of schemes, grievance redressal, and online service delivery to citizens. It operates over high-speed leased lines or satellite links, ensuring secure and reliable connectivity even in remote areas. The network is managed by the State Wide Area Network (SWAN) project and is critical for the Digital India mission. DAN plays a key role in implementing District e-Governance Society (DeGS) workflows, disaster management coordination, and transparent governance. For exam aspirants, knowledge of DAN is relevant for UPSC, state PCS, and banking exams that include questions on e-governance infrastructure and digital initiatives.
