Credit Remedial Examination
Full Form of CRE
What is CRE?
A Credit Remedial Examination (CRE) is a supplementary exam conducted by universities and colleges in India for students who have failed a course or scored below the passing threshold in the regular semester exams. It allows students to recover the lost credits without having to repeat the entire academic year or course. CREs are typically held during winter or summer breaks, a few weeks after the regular results are declared. The passing grade in a CRE is usually the minimum required to earn the credit, and the original grade from the regular exam may be replaced or averaged depending on the institution's policy. This system is widely used across central and state universities, including Delhi University, IGNOU, and many affiliated colleges, to provide a fair chance for students to continue their degree without disruption. For competitive exams like GATE or campus placements, a cleared CRE is often treated as a normal pass, though some recruiters may seek clarification. Understanding CRE procedures is crucial for Indian students facing backlogs, as it directly impacts their academic progress and eligibility for higher education or jobs.
