Cash on Delivery
Full Form of COD
What is COD?
Cash on Delivery (COD) is a payment method where the customer pays for the product in cash at the time of delivery rather than upfront online. In India, COD became extremely popular with the rise of e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon, as it addressed trust concerns among first-time online shoppers who were wary of digital payments. It is widely used for purchases of electronics, clothing, and household items, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities where credit card penetration is low. Customers select COD at checkout, and the delivery agent collects the exact amount in cash upon handing over the package. Though convenient, COD often involves higher delivery charges and return rates for sellers. For commerce and business students, understanding COD is essential for studying payment systems, consumer behavior, and logistics in the Indian context. It also appears in competitive exams like banking and MBA entrance tests under the e-commerce and retail management sections.
