Council of National Language Networks
Full Form of CNLN
What is CNLN?
The Council of National Language Networks (CNLN) is a collaborative body that brings together linguistic institutions, universities, and translation centres across India to promote and standardize work in the country's official and regional languages. It acts as a coordinating platform for scholars, lexicographers, and language technologists who work on corpus building, terminology development, and digital tools for Indian languages listed under the Eighth Schedule. In the Indian context, the council supports initiatives linked to the National Education Policy by encouraging mother-tongue instruction, vernacular digital content, and machine translation projects for languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, and Marathi. It also partners with organisations like the Central Institute of Indian Languages to publish glossaries and conduct research on lesser-known tribal dialects. Government bodies and academic institutions often consult CNLN for policy inputs. For students preparing for UPSC, NET, and state public service examinations, questions on language commissions, linguistic minorities, and India’s language policy framework are common.
