Clean Note
Full Form of CLN
What is CLN?
CLN, or Clean Note, refers to the policy and practice of maintaining high-quality, unsoiled, and undamaged currency notes in circulation. In India, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has implemented the Clean Note Policy to ensure that all banknotes in use are hygienic, durable, and free from defacement. Under this directive, banks are required to provide facilities for exchanging soiled, mutilated, or worn-out notes for fresh ones, and they must not issue notes that are torn, taped, or written upon. The policy also encourages the public to avoid stapling or pinning notes and to refrain from writing on them. CLN is actively promoted through awareness campaigns in branches, ATMs, and rural banking correspondents. It plays a crucial role in reducing the spread of germs, curbing the circulation of counterfeit currency, and extending the lifespan of notes. For banking aspirants, the Clean Note Policy is a common topic in exams like IBPS, RBI Grade B, and SBI PO, where questions focus on its guidelines, implementation, and impact on the Indian economy.
