Crop Husbandry Training
Full Form of CHT
What is CHT?
Crop Husbandry Training (CHT) is a capacity-building programme designed to improve agricultural practices among Indian farmers. It covers modern techniques in soil management, irrigation, pest control, and post-harvest handling. In India, CHT is often conducted by state agricultural departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to enhance crop productivity and sustainability. The training is typically delivered through field demonstrations, workshops, and farm schools. CHT plays a vital role in achieving food security and doubling farmer incomes, as emphasized in government schemes like the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture. Students preparing for agriculture-related competitive exams such as ICAR JRF, ASRB, and state agriculture officer exams often encounter questions on CHT. The programme is especially relevant in rural areas where traditional farming methods need upgrading. By bridging the gap between research and practice, CHT helps small and marginal farmers adopt climate-resilient cropping patterns.
