Child Development Bureau
Full Form of CDB
What is CDB?
The Child Development Bureau (CDB) is a key division within India's Ministry of Women and Child Development. It is primarily responsible for the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of policies and programmes aimed at the holistic development of children aged 0–6 years, as well as pregnant and lactating mothers. The CDB oversees the flagship Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, which provides supplementary nutrition, immunisation, health check-ups, and pre-school education through a network of Anganwadi centres across the country. The bureau works closely with state governments, district administrations, and frontline workers such as Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers. It also coordinates with other ministries for inter-sectoral convergence on issues like health, nutrition, and early childhood care. The CDB is involved in data collection, evaluation studies, and capacity building to improve service delivery. Its functions are critical for achieving national targets under the Poshan Abhiyaan and Sustainable Development Goals related to child health and nutrition. For government exam aspirants, understanding the CDB's role is essential for questions on social sector policies, women and child development, and flagship schemes in India.
