Bihar Rural Road Scheme
Full Form of BRRS
What is BRRS?
The Bihar Rural Road Scheme (BRRS) is a state-level infrastructure programme initiated by the Government of Bihar to improve rural connectivity. Launched under the broader framework of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the scheme focuses on constructing all-weather roads to connect unconnected habitations with more than 250 residents in plain areas and 100 in hilly or tribal regions. BRRS aims to reduce isolation, boost agricultural marketing, and enhance access to education and healthcare services for rural populations. The scheme is implemented by the Bihar Rural Roads Development Agency (BRRDA) and is monitored through a dedicated online management system. Funds are allocated from both central and state budgets, with an emphasis on cost-effective and durable road construction using locally available materials. In India, BRRS is particularly significant in the context of Bihar's agrarian economy, where poor road networks historically hindered economic growth. The scheme also ensures timely maintenance and grievance redressal mechanisms. For students preparing for state-level competitive exams like BPSC or Bihar specific GK sections, understanding BRRS and its alignment with national rural road policies is important, as questions often appear on state infrastructure initiatives.
