Block Resource Centre
Full Form of BRC
What is BRC?
Block Resource Centre (BRC) is an academic support structure established at the block level in India under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to improve the quality of elementary education. It serves as a hub for training, mentoring, and resource provision for teachers and school heads in a cluster of villages. BRCs coordinate with Cluster Resource Centres (CRCs) to implement teacher capacity-building programs, develop teaching-learning materials, and monitor school performance. They are typically housed in government buildings or dedicated facilities and function under the Block Education Officer. BRCs play a critical role in bridging urban-rural educational gaps by ensuring that even remote schools receive pedagogical support and access to innovative practices. In competitive exams like CTET, UPTET, and state teaching eligibility tests, questions often touch upon the role of BRCs in the Indian educational framework. Their creation marked a shift towards decentralized academic management, empowering local educators to address specific classroom challenges. BRCs also collaborate with NGOs and academic institutions to introduce activity-based learning and inclusive education methods.
