Business Reform Action Plan
Full Form of BRAP
What is BRAP?
The Business Reform Action Plan, commonly known as BRAP, is a flagship initiative of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It was launched in 2015 to assess and rank states and union territories based on the ease of doing business for entrepreneurs and investors within their jurisdictions. BRAP evaluates reforms across multiple parameters including land allocation, construction permits, labour regulation compliance, environmental clearances, taxation, and digital governance. States and UTs submit evidence of reforms through an online portal, which is then verified and scored. The rankings encourage competitive federalism by motivating state governments to simplify procedures, reduce red tape, and attract greater domestic and foreign investment. BRAP findings also feed into the World Bank's Doing Business reports and influence policy decisions. For Indian competitive exam aspirants, BRAP is an important topic in General Studies papers covering Indian economy, government schemes, and ease of doing business reforms.
