What is BMG?
Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMG) is one of India's largest trade union federations, founded in 1955 by leaders associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). It operates as a central trade union organisation that represents workers across various sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, and services. BMG is affiliated with the RSS and follows a nationalist and non-political approach to labour issues, focusing on workers' welfare, skill development, and harmonious industrial relations rather than class conflict. The union is widely active in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and it engages in collective bargaining, legal advocacy, and organising protests for better wages, safety, and job security. BMG also runs educational and vocational training programs for workers. In competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, and state PCS, questions often appear about major trade unions in India, including their founding years and affiliations. BMG plays a key role in shaping India's labour policy and is distinct from other unions like AITUC, INTUC, and HMS due to its ideological alignment with cultural nationalism. Its presence in industrial belts makes it a significant player in Indian labour movements.
