Bihar Legislative Assembly
Full Form of BLA
What is BLA?
The Bihar Legislative Assembly (BLA) is the lower house of the bicameral legislature of the Indian state of Bihar. It is composed of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) directly elected by the people of Bihar from single-member constituencies. The BLA plays a central role in state governance by debating and passing laws, approving the state budget, and scrutinizing the work of the state government. It meets at the Vidhan Sabha building in Patna, the state capital. The Assembly has a term of five years, unless dissolved earlier. Elections to the BLA are held every five years, and the party or coalition with a majority of seats forms the state government, with the Chief Minister as its head. The BLA is a key institution in India's federal structure, ensuring that state-specific issues are addressed through legislation. For competitive exams like UPSC and Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), questions often appear on the composition, powers, and functions of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, making it an important topic in Indian polity.
