Automotive Skills Development Council

What is ASDC?

The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) is a Sector Skill Council (SSC) established under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in India. It is tasked with bridging the skills gap in the automotive industry by designing and implementing national competency standards, curricula, and certification programs. ASDC works closely with automobile manufacturers, service centers, training providers, and government agencies to create a skilled workforce across areas such as vehicle repair, manufacturing, sales, and electric vehicle technology. The council also conducts assessments and awards certificates to workers and students, making it a key body for vocational training in the country. ASDC operates in all states, with a focus on aligning training with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). It was set up in 2011 and has since trained millions of youth, including those from rural areas. For competitive exams like banking and government job tests, questions about ASDC may appear in the General Awareness section, especially relating to skill development initiatives of the Government of India. Its role is critical in achieving the vision of a ‘Skilled India’ and improving employability in the automotive sector.
