Aptitude and Quotient Test
Full Form of AQT
What is AQT?
The Aptitude and Quotient Test (AQT) is a standardized assessment tool used in some Indian schools to evaluate a student's innate abilities (aptitude) and cognitive potential (quotient). Unlike simple IQ tests, AQT measures both reasoning capacity and subject-specific aptitude, making it valuable for guiding stream selection at the higher secondary level—students may choose Science, Commerce, or Arts based on their AQT results. The test is typically administered in Class 9 or 10 by private schools and coaching institutes to identify strengths and areas for improvement. It is also used for scholarship eligibility and in certain career counselling programmes. While not directly part of major competitive exams like the UPSC or JEE, understanding AQT can be helpful for teachers preparing for the CTET or for students seeking self-assessment. The test usually covers logical reasoning, numerical ability, verbal skills, and spatial awareness. In India, its adoption is growing as schools focus on holistic student evaluation beyond traditional marks. For exam aspirants, AQT is not a standard requirement but appears in educational psychology and pedagogy sections of teacher training exams.
