The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) is a division of the peripheral nervous system that regulates involuntary physiological processes such as heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, pupillary response, and salivation. In India, the ANS is a fundamental topic in medical and biology curricula, especially for competitive exams like NEET, AIIMS, and JIPMER. It operates below the level of consciousness and maintains homeostasis by controlling smooth and cardiac muscles, as well as glandular secretions.
