Atal Kisan Yojana
Full Form of AKY
What is AKY?
Atal Kisan Yojana (AKY) is a central government scheme in India designed to provide direct financial support to small and marginal farmers. Launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, it aims to supplement the income of farmers by offering an annual cash transfer of ₹6,000 in two equal instalments, similar to the PM-KISAN scheme but with a focus on landless and tenant farmers. The scheme is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was introduced to address agrarian distress, ensuring timely assistance during crop seasons. It is implemented through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, linking beneficiaries to Aadhaar and bank accounts. AKY is particularly relevant in states with high concentrations of marginal holdings, such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. For students preparing for competitive exams like UPSC or state civil services, AKY is often asked as a key welfare initiative under the agriculture and rural development sections. The scheme represents the government’s commitment to doubling farmers' income by 2024 and alleviating rural poverty through targeted cash transfers.
