Armed Forces Tribunal
Full Form of AFT
What is AFT?
The Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) is a statutory quasi-judicial body established under the Armed Forces Tribunal Act, 2007, to adjudicate disputes and appeals concerning members of the Indian Armed Forces. Its primary role is to provide an effective and speedy redressal mechanism for grievances related to service matters, including pay, pension, promotion, and disciplinary actions, as well as to hear appeals against court-martial verdicts. The AFT operates through its Principal Bench in New Delhi and several regional benches across the country, making justice accessible to personnel stationed in different regions. It is widely used by army, navy, and air force officers and soldiers who seek recourse outside the traditional military chain of command. For competitive exams like UPSC and law entrance tests, the AFT is a frequently asked topic under the defence and judiciary sections, as it represents a significant reform in military justice administration.
